Shooting people at weddings is so much fun (with a camera of course)

Hi I’m Huw, your documentary wedding photographer from North Wales
I live with my wife Hannah and our two furkids, Tinker and Oggy. We’re just over the border near a town called Mold, or Yr Wyddgrug in Welsh. Our goal is to move deeper into North Wales to a small holding somewhere in the hills. The rural dream! Let’s see what the future holds.
Tinker is our 16 year old Birman/Bengal cross who adopted us over 10 years ago. She is a very pretty cat (if I do say so myself) but gets fed up with me taking pictures of her.
Oggy is our Border collie, his name stems from our favourite place in North Wales, the Ogwen Valley. He certainly keeps us fit and now understands what the camera means…..“Sit, Stay, Good boy” followed by some chicken.
My first camera
I bought my first ‘proper’ camera in 2012 when Hannah and I went on a safari to Tanzania. I was so excited to document our holiday and capture our memories for years to come.
I still have the elephant photos hanging in our hall.
This set the wheels in motion and my love of photography grew. I experimented with different styles including some light painting, until friends started asking me to shoot their weddings. I quickly realised I enjoyed capturing the interaction of different personalities, and felt privileged to be a part of it all.
In 2019, I finally set up my dream, HPJ Photography.

My rock
I’ve been married to my rock for 8 years now and I can honestly say that Hannah is the best thing that has happened to me. We just work. We met on eHarmony when the algorithm must have been having a good day.
I plucked up the courage to propose after a few years and, of course, I used Light Painting Photography to pop the question. Thankfully she said yes, after crying for ten minutes into the wine glass she was clutching in her cold hands. If you want to know more you can ask me when we have a chat.

Nature to nourish the soul
I’m a big lover of nature and the outdoors. It’s a good job really, as we have a three year old border collie who has a lot of energy to burn! We spend hours in the mountains of North Wales trying to wear him out. There’s something so peaceful about being up there where your head is clear. It’s great for the mental health.
A few years ago (before the pandemic prevented us from enjoying the outdoors), I discovered scrambling*. It added a new element to my mountain adventures and gave me access to views that otherwise would have remained hidden. In the Winter it wasn’t so pleasant being outside so I decided to try indoor climbing at my local gym, The Boardroom. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! It’s now become a second home for Hannah and I. If we’re not working, walking the dog or injured you’ll find us there.
